Asleep at the wheel of your Windows PC?
Having just read an article about how Windows users of the Apple IPad are being targetted by hackers, it bears reminding everyone that there are many available options for securing your Windows computer these days. In the past, we have seen AVast!, AVG, among others offer free real-time virus protection and automated updates. A while back, Microsoft introduced the freely available Microsoft Security Essentials which also performs real-time protection, scheduled scanning and automated updates.
So let's go over the basic premise.
There are hackers out there and they are a smart and crafty bunch. There is little doubt that if you are clicking links within emails or employing any search engine to direct your travels on the net that eventually you will encounter a carefully constructed web site designed to trick you or your child into running a program on your PC.

Dasia Transition
To all of our new Dasia DSL Customers,
Let me begin by saying welcome and thank you for placing your trust in Perigee.net. We hope that we can exceed your expectations for service and provide you with a high quality ISP for all of your current and future needs.
Background
January has been a challenging month for Perigee and our new Dasia DSL customers. We have tried hard to make the migration as painless as we possibly could, although some were more painful than others. As usual in these types of situations, it was the unforeseen things that created most of the excitement. I promised several of you a quick recap of some of the issues we faced during this migration after we were done. Among other things, this letter should help with that. Some of you mentioned you felt there was lacking or conflicting information given during the process and, hopefully, the information here will fill in some of the gaps.

Windstream DSL move
We are tentatively scheduled to be moving our Windstream DSL circuits over to a new high speed line this evening (March 25th) starting at approx 6PM. The conversion will likely take several hours during which time connectivity for all of our DSL circuits that are in Windstream/Alltel territories may be offline. We will be working with the phone company to make the switch happen as quick as possible. |

DSL Setup Help
DSL has been around long enough now that it is not unusual for people to switch between providers and keep their DSL routers just like they would if they were using a modem to dial into an ISP. Although Perigee can support most any DSL router, you must still be able to configure your router to use Perigee.net's account information. The following information may help you in making these changes to your router.
1) Find the IP Address of your DSL Router or Gateway. There are several ways to determine this, but one consistent way on a Microsoft computer is to run the IPCONFIG command line program. You will need to access a command line prompt to run this program. On Windows XP, click on Run and type "CMD" in the "Open" entry field. On Windows Vista or 7, you can type CMD into the search field and hit the enter key.
After accessing a command line prompt, type IPCONFIG. You will see a lot of data, so look for the line that says "Default Gateway . . . .". The IP Address on that line is typically your DSL router.
