Configuring Microsoft Exchange

Open Microsoft Exchange by double clicking on the Inbox
icon.
- Choose the Tools option from the bar.
- Click on Services. You will see a window containing a list of services.
Check to see if Internet Mail is listed.
- If it is, skip to Part B below
- If not: Click the Add button.
- This will bring up another window listing available services.
- Find Internet Mail on this list, highlight it, then click OK.
- This should add Internet Mail to the original list. Now go to Part B.
Part B
- Highlight Internet Mail.
- Click on Properties.
- Full name should be your Full Name (John Q. Doe) (not your username)
- E-mail address is username@perigee.net
- Internet mail server is pop.perigee.net
- Account Name should be your username
- Password is simply your password
- Click the Advanced button
- Forward all mail to: smtp.perigee.net
- Click Ok
- Click on the tab labeled Connection
- Select Connect using the modem
- "Dial using the following connection" should say Perigee
(it should already be there - if not, use the down arrow to select it.)
- The button that says "Work off-line and use Remote Mail" should not
be clicked
- Click OK, then OK on the next window.
- Exit Inbox completely.
- Launch your Perigee Dialer and connect. Once your connection is established,
restart Inbox by double-clicking on the
icon.
The changes you made above will not take effect until you have done this..
- You can now send and receive email until your heart is content! Have fun....
*NOTE*
- After you have composed your new email message to whomever,
click on the Send button. This will place your message in the
Outbox folder, where it will remain until:
- You manually send the mail by:
- Pressing Ctrl M on the keyboard. OR
- Select Tools, then Deliver now using, then Internet Mail.
- Microsoft Exchange automatically checks your account for new email. It does this
automatically at preset intervals. When it goes to check for new mail it will automatically deliver any mail currently in your Outbox.
Setting up Microsoft Exchange for Multiple Users
- After you have finished the above configurations, you can set Exchange to use "Profiles". This means that Bob, Joe and Mary can all have separate "Mailboxes" inside of Exchange that will keep their email seperated.
- To set this up, go to your Start button, Settings, Control Panel. Double click on the "Mail" or "Mail and Fax" icon. You will see a window come up
with several services listed in it. Click on:
- The Show Profiles button.
- Click "Add" button.
- Only check "Microsoft Fax" and "Internet Mail" in the listed options.
Click "Next"
- Enter the name of the Profile you would like to set up. For example "Bob's Email".
Click "Next"
- Select the Fax Modem you wish to use. Click "Next"
- When asked if you would like Microsoft Fax to answer each incoming call, I would recommend selecting NO. Unless you have a dedicated Fax/Modem line for your computer.
Click "Next"
- Enter your name and fax number you are calling from. Click "Next"
- Select Modem, when asked if you are using a modem or network. Click "Next"
- Choose the Dial-Up Networking setting to use with Internet Mail, it's probably "Perigee". Click "Next"
- When asked the address of the Internet Mail server, enter: pop.perigee.net Click "Next"
- When asked the mode for transferring messages, select "Automatic". Click "Next"
- Enter your email address and full name. Example bob@perigee.net and Bob Doe Click "Next"
- When asked your mailbox name, enter your username. Then enter your dialup password.Click "Next"
- When asked what the path to your personal address book is, enter something like the following: c:\exchange\bob.pab Click "Next"
- When asked what the path to your personal folder file is, enter something like the following: c:\exchange\bob.pst Click "Next"
- Select "Do Not add Inbox to startup group." Click "Next"
- Click "Finish". You will now see your new profile added to the list in your profiles window.
- To ensure that Exchange prompts you for a profile each time you open it: Open Microsoft Exchange, go to your Tools Menu, then to Options.
- Under the General tab you will see a section that says, "When starting Microsoft Exchange"
- Set this to "Prompt for a Profile to be used".
- Hit the "OK" button, close Microsoft Exchange and restart it. That's it! You should be ready to go.
- Repeat these instructions for setting up more users with profiles.
